McConnellsburg Shuts Out Northern Bedford County

McConnellsburg 10, Northern Bedford County 0: The Spartans visited Northern Bedford County for a cross-conference match against the Panthers on September 17, cruising to their sixth straight win and second shutout.
McConnellsburg opened the scoring shortly after the seventh minute. Jace Fletcher’s shot from the 15-yard line was mishandled by the goalkeeper, allowing Tucker Hedge to finish from just outside the goal line. One minute later, Lincoln McKelvy scored after Grady Shives’ shot rebounded off the crossbar to the 15-yard line. Another minute later, a Callen Mellott corner kick into a crowded goalmouth resulted in an own goal. Hoyt Glenn made it 4-0 in the 19th minute off a McKelvy assist. With nine minutes remaining in the half, McKelvy set up Chris Ebersole for the fifth goal. Glenn added an unassisted goal from close range three minutes later, giving the Spartans a 6-0 halftime lead.
In the 12th minute of the second half, left wing Azeiaha Lucas scored the seventh goal after collecting a loose ball from McKelvy’s battle at the goal line. Seven minutes later, Glenn headed in a Mellott corner kick. Two minutes after that, Glenn sent a ball from 55 yards out to McKelvy, who collected it at the 15-yard line and finished a one-on-one chance for the ninth goal. With 10 minutes remaining, Ebersole was fouled in the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick for his second goal.

McConnellsburg 3, Northern Bedford County 0.The Lady Spartans defeated the Northern Bedford County Lady Panthers in nonconference play on September 17, earning their sixth consecutive win and fifth shutout.
McConnellsburg scored just after the third minute of the first half. Gemma Gordon drove down the left side and crossed to Marin DeShong, who tapped the ball into the right corner while the goalkeeper was flat down near the middle of the goal. With 17 minutes remaining, Brookelynn Gelvin collected a goal kick at midfield and sent the ball toward the left side of the 25-yard line. Gordon gained possession near the 10, dribbled to the corner and along the end line, drew out the goalkeeper, and shot into the far corner. McConnellsburg’s third goal began with a Sydney Buterbaugh corner kick. A defender’s deflection fell to Kya Washabaugh at the 10-yard line, and she drove the ball into the net. The Spartans took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Neither team scored in the second half. The Panthers applied more pressure and recorded more shots and shots on goal than in the first half. Meanwhile, the Spartans kept the Panthers’ goalkeeper busy, forcing her to make 21 second half saves. The Spartan defense held firm to preserve the shutout.
