McConnellsburg 5, Rockwood 1: The Spartans hosted the Rockwood Rockets on September 16 to resume the cross-conference match postponed by rain on September 2, earning their sixth straight victory.
Play resumed in the first half with 19 minutes remaining. Five minutes later, Hoyt Glenn scored off a Jace Fletcher assist, then struck again three minutes later on an assist from Callen Mellott. With 8½ minutes left, Lincoln McKelvy scored from an Ethan Lange assist, giving the Spartans a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the 11th minute of the second half, Glenn completed his hat trick with McKelvy’s assist, scoring the Spartans’ fourth goal. Rockwood scored its lone goal with under 10 minutes remaining, but Glenn answered a minute later with an unassisted fourth goal. The Spartan defense then withstood a late flurry of Rockwood shots, with goalkeeper Cole Fletcher stopping every attempt.
