FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg 4, Central Dauphin East 0: The Trojans tasted a victory for the first time this season, dominating the Panthers to capture a Mid Penn Colonial contest Friday afternoon in Colonial Park.
“We played a really strong team game,” Chambersburg coach Rachael Sanders said. “We moved the ball well, supported each other all over the field and did a good job of staying connected from the back line through the midfield and into the attack. It was great to see different players step up and contribute, and that’s the kind of team hockey we want to continue building.”
Libby Leonard opened the scoring, sending a shot into the cage after a pass from Reagan Barrett. Also in the first quarter, Emme Vandevander tipped in a shot off the goalie’s pads for a 2-0 lead.
In the second period, Josey Snavely redirected a ball off the baseline from Kaelyn Coy and into the cage. Barrett closed the scoring in the third quarter, drilling in a shot from the top of the circle.
Sanders said, “The defense had a great showing, anchoring the team and helping to push the offensive attack. Goalie Lacey Mooney played three quarters and Kyler Hepner made her first varsity appearance to preserve the shutout.”
GIRLS SOCCER
Carlisle 2, Chambersburg 0: The Trojan defense has been playing fairly well, but Chambersburg offense fizzled again in a loss to the Thundering Herd in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game on the road Friday afternoon.
“We managed some chances, although goals have been hard to come by at the moment, but ideas we’ve been developing in training are starting to take hold,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said. “Positive signs of things to come.”
The game was scoreless until Carlisle scored a goal with about 20 minutes left after a loose ball. It also scored shortly after that on a corner kick.
Unruh said, “Freshman Natalie Lehman played in three positions and was phenomenal in her work rate.”
The Trojans (1-3, 0-2 MPC) have been shut out for 3 straight games.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans win Blue Devil Invitational: Chambersburg finished ahead of North Hagerstown, which had the No. 1 and 2 runners, to take the team title at the inaugural Blue Devil Invitational in Greencastle on Friday evening.
“I was pleased that the girls got an invitational victory, winning by 9 points,” Trojan coach Chris Monheim said. “It was a small field of teams, but it was contested on one of the toughest courses we’ve run on. All seven of our top runners finished in the top 15 to get medals. We have some sick kids on the team and now we have a chance with our schedule to relax and get healthy.”
Natalie Quinn placed third for Chambersburg in 21:23, followed by Lilly Spohn (7th, 22:49), Taliya Raber (9th, 24:17), Kaylie Savage (10th, 24:20), Atlea Perschuk (11th, 24:40), Darcy Aurand (14th, 25:29) and Maggie Holtry (15th, 25:30).
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg placed 2nd: The Trojans boys were in a dogfight during the entire race at the Blue Devil Invitational on Friday evening in Greencastle, and just missed pulling out a win.
“We were only one point behind Smithsburg and one point ahead of South Western,” Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer said, “so it was a tight team race for the top three for sure — every place and man counted.”
The Trojans, without No. 1 runner Boston Vincenti, put Liam Coy (7th, 19:05), Cole Lehman (8th, 19:06) and Tobias Willson (10th, 19:13) in the top 10. Also competing were Ben Lin (14th, 19:51), Chase Goshorn (19, 20:13), Logan Bert (24th, 20:28) and Gavin Lehman (25th, 20:31).
