The opponent: The Little Lions — no surprise — are loaded, and are the favorites to win the Commonwealth … QB Connor Kulka threw for more than 2,000 yards last year and opened last week with a 12-for-23 performance, good for 132 yards … He also ran for 66 yards to help State College roll up 368 rushing yards … Rowan Walker is the Little Lions’ lead back and he had 183 yards on 31 carries, and scored 3 times … AJ Fry (3-42), Walker (3-27) and Max Vendemia (2-15) were the top receivers.
Coach’s view: Chambersburg coach Gary Carter said, “As always, they are big and strong and very disciplined. We’ll have to play our best game. The quarterback ran some last week — they had him roll out and he got out to the edge. Their defense is always sound and they attack the football so well.”
Trojan quarterback Cam Green, who was injured last Friday, is “day-to-day,” according to Carter. “If he’s out, he shouldn’t be out for long.” … Backup QB Justin Deneen is out with an injury, but Jashaun Palmer did a fine job taking over last week.
Unsung: Carter said the entire group of receivers did well last week, with Lucas Ocker (3 catches, 69 yards) and Seth Gilliam (3-22) each scoring a touchdown … “The offensive line played pretty well once we got our feet under us, and the receivers played well, even with blocking.”
Statistics: Palmer racked up 173 yards on receptions before moving to QB, where he was 8-for-16 for 102 yards … Green threw for 229 yards (12-for-25).
SOUTH WESTERN AT GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM

The opponent: The Mustangs play in Division I of the newly-named South Central Athletic League (formerly YAIAA) … QB Seth Sullivan hit on 12 of 23 passes last week for 164 yards, 3 TDs and an interception … Running backs Anthony Frazier and Colton Cassetta each ran for 52 yards … Wyatt Carbaugh led the receivers with 5 catches for 48 yards and Jacob Graham had 2 for 36, and both scored a touchdown.
Coach’s view: G-A coach Jason Thurston said, “Carlisle did some good things and moved the ball well on South Western, so that’s a little encouraging. (SW) has a big offensive line, a nice runnning back who runs with a different style, the quarterback throws a nice ball and he had a bunch of good receivers. I was happy with how our defense played Friday and I feel good about this game. South Western plays a 4-2-5 defense and has a couple of big, good tackles. If we can limit mistakes, I think it’s a good matchup for us.”
Unsung: Blue Devil linebacker Braden Eckert … Thurston said, “He’s a senior who is not a starter, but he had an opportunity to play last week and he ending up leading the team in tackles (9). I was proud of him for stepping up — he did a great job.”
Statistics: Greencastle halfback Spencer Long had a good start last week, running for 99 yards and a score and taking a short pass 70 yards for another TD … Landon Kagarise had a 27-yard scoring run, Wyatt Hull caught a TD pass of 9 yards from QB Gavin Logsdon and Ethan South ran back a blocked put (by Hull) for an 84-yard TD … Logsdon was 5-for-9 for 109 yards.
