SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 15, Cedar Cliff 4: After 2 innings, the underdog Colts held a 4-0 lead against the Trojans, but Chambersburg put up a big-time crooked number in the top of the third with 12 runs, and claimed a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Monday afternoon at New Cumberland.

Josey Snavely

“It was a good way to start the week, when we play four games in four days,” Trojan coach Chris Skultety said. “The girls are really sticking together, creating a fun environment and focusing on team goals.

“We made a couple of baserunning mistakes in the first two inings and got down early. But we didn’t get rattled. We buckled down in the third inning and took advantage of some wildness by their pitchers.”

In the crazy third inning, Chambersburg (13-3, 10-2 MPC) scored 5 runs on RBI singles (by Erissa Varner, Marley Onomastico, Addy Gsell, Sanay Jones and Hensley Brookens), 3 runs scored on consecutive bases-loaded hit-by-pitches, 2 on errant Cedar Cliff throws, a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.

Onomastico (4 RBIs), Gsell (3 RBIs) and Piper Jones each had a pair of hits, Snavely hit a double and had 2 runs batted in and Varner had 2 RBIs.

Issie Slimmer (11-2) pitched the first 3 innings for the Triojans and allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, including a home run by the Colts’ Brooke Martin, and Sanay Jones pitched the final 2 innings, giving up 1 hit.

BASEBALL
Cedar Cliff 3, Chambersburg 2, 9 innings: The Colts limited the Trojans to just 4 hits and scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to steal a Mid Penn Commonwealth win Monday afternoon at Greene Township Park.

Ceagan Truett

Chambersburg, which has lost 4 of its last 6 games, is now tied for first place in the Commonwealth with Mifflin County.

The Colts’ Peyton Price, who pitched the first 8 innings and gave up just 4 hits, 1 earned run and struck out 10, also hit the game-winning single in the ninth.

“I think Price is probably the best pitcher in the league,” Chambersburg coach Scott Folmar said. “He commands his fastball and he can throw his breaking ball for a strike in any count. He’s really good. We didn’t have a lot of traffic today.”

Cedar Cliff scored an unearned run off Brady Truett in the first, then fell behind 2-1 when the Trojans scored twice in the fourth. Brady Truett and Ceagan Truett led off with singles, and Aiden Appleby bunted them to second and third. Brady Truett scored on a passed ball and Brycen Murray’s sacrifice fly made it 2-1.

The Colts tied it 2-2 in the sixth when Grant Enders led off with a triple and Blake Secrest hit a sac fly.

“We had a few guys on base, and when we had a chance to move them up, that’s the inning we scored,” Folmar said. “We had the lead late, but we just couldn’t finish it.”

Kaitlyn Brady

GIRLS LACROSSE
York Suburban 15, Chambersburg 6: The Trojans couldn’t get it going against York Suburban’s draw control specialist and had a hard time getting possession of the ball in a non-league defeat on Monday evening in York.

“Our girls played tough tonight,” Chambersburg coach Shane Henry said. “But they have a Division I (Liberty) commit who is a draw specialist. We tried so many different things and couldn’t break her to gain a draw control tonight.”

For the Trojans (9-6), Brynn Sekel had 2 goals and 2 caused turnovers, Adele Henry scored twice and added 1 CTO and 2 groundballs, and Reagan Barrett netted 2 goals and won a groundball.

Coach Henry said that Kaitlyn Brady played well, securing 4 caused TOs and 3 groundballs. Goalie Reese Heverley made 7 stops.

York Suburban is 12-5 and ranked No. 5 in Class 2A in District 3. Chambersburg began the night at No. 7 in Class 6A.
