Kylie Kerns and Erika Hoover were both 2-for-3, while Paiton Gordon, Kiersten Swain, Brooklyn Sanchez and Serenity Goodman all were 2-for-4 for Greencastle (13-2), ranked No. 3 in District 3 Class 5A. Swain had 3 RBIs, and Gordon, Kerns and Allison Logsdon each had 2.

“That was a nice win to get,” G-A coach Mark DeCarli said. “They’re a quality team with a good pitcher. We started slow, but started clicking in the third inning. We bunted the ball very well and got everybody moving on the bases.”

Warwick (11-7, ranked No. 13 in D-3) opened with 3 runs in the top of the first inning off pitcher Lydia Pryke (5-0), who gave up only 5 hits for the day and struck out 12, but she did walk 10 batters.

It was 3-1 when Greencastle came to bat in the third and it ended with G-A ahead 8-3.

The inning opened with a bang when Sanchez tripled and Kerns swatted a line drive over the fence in center for her fourth home run of the season.

Hoover was hit by a pitch and singles by Goodman and Minnie Gambacurta loaded the bases. A single by Logsdon scored two runs and Gambacurta scored on a wild pitch. Then a single to right field by Swain scored the final 2 runs.

DeCarli said, “I was a little worried how we’d play today. The girls were really up for that Northern game yesterday (which got rained out). But they played hard and it got us a nice win.”
