Trojans’ Winter qualifies for District 3: Chambersburg’s Anton Winter reached the semifinals of the Mid Penn Conference boys tennis championships at No. 1 singles, and that qualified him for the District 3 tournament in Class 3A.
Winter, the No. 2 seed, had a bye in the first round, and in the quarterfinals, he defeated Easton Eberly of Lower Dauphin, 6-3, 6-3. Friday in the semifinal, Winter was defeated by Hershey’s Maz Laurore, 6-3, 6-3, but by making the semifinals, he has qualified for districts.
Winter and partner Eli Keefer are still alive for a No. 1 doubles district berth. They will play Monday for fifth place, which is the final district berth.
The duo defeated Cedar Cliff, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round and fell to Lower Dauphin, 6-1, 6-0. Their first consolation match was a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hershey, and they face Mechanicsburg on Monday for fifth place.
Chambersburg’s No. 1 doubles team of Caden Brenize and Drew Staley captured a win in their first match, taking down CD East, 6-3, 6-4. But they were stopped by Central Dauphin, 6-1, 6-0 to end their season.
At No. 2 doubles, the Trojan team of Seth Walter and Nate Weis also took a first-round win, 6-2, 7-6 over Palmyra, and then dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Cumberland Valley.
