5 local basketball teams get pairings for PIAA 2nd round

Five basketball teams in Franklin and Fulton County will continue their seasons this week when the second round of the PIAA Championships rolls around on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Taking victories over the weekend were three boys teams: Chambersburg (57-49 over Coatesville), McConnellsburg (57-55 over Eden Christian) and Forbes Road (58-50 over Cameron County) — and two girls teams: Shalom Christian (46-13 over MaST Charter) and Southern Fulton (31-28 over Greenwood).

The most exciting finish was most likely from McConnellsburg. The Spartans were tied 55-55 with Eden Christian, when star player Hoyt Glenn turned the ball over with just over 3 seconds left. But Glenn more than made up for it by stealing the inbounds pass and hitting a layup with less than a second remaining to swipe the win.

The highlight of the second round is that Chambersburg and McConnellsburg will play in a doubleheader at U. Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday evening. MidPennBroadcasting.com will air both games at UPJ, with audio only.
