BOYS WRESTLING
Chambersburg 40, Shippensburg 27: The Greyhounds gave the Trojans a serious scare, but a big finish by Chambersburg produced a non-league win Wednesday night at the CASHS Aux Gym.
Shippensburg (3-6) trailed 10-9 after the first 4 bouts of the night, but then ripped off wins in 4 of the next 5 matches to take a 27-16 lead with 4 bouts left. But Chambersburg (5-4) won three of those last 4 by pin and the other by forfeit to pile up the late points.
The Hounds got pins by Bryson Statler at 133 and Trajan Anderson at 160, and decisions by Ricky Elliott at 145 and Abe Luffy at 152 to take its biggest lead. Elliott trailed Nathan Chambers 6-3 after two periods, but got an escape and connected on the winning takedown with 0:32 left to win 7-6.
In between, Matthew Kennedy scored a key fall at 139 pounds for the Trojans to keep his team within reach.
Trailing by 11, Chambersburg started its comeback when Alex Lozius took a 13-2 lead before pinning Anthony Lochiatto in 3:00 at 172. A forfeit win at 189 by Jaccob Stoner put the Trojans ahead 28-27, and they finished it off with pins by Deakon Snavely at 215 and Frank Barrientos at 285.
Trojan coach Craig Hight said, “I was happy to get the win. We hand fought well, but we didn’t have the best mat awareness tonight, giving up crucial takedowns several times at the edge of the mat.
“Matthew Kennedy did well after being thrown to the wolves a few times recently. I thought Alex Lozius and Isaac Brambley wrestled well, too.”
Brambley scored a major decision at 127 and Hunter Johnson notched a pin at 107. For Ship, Asher Horne produced a pin at 114 and Braden Boardman won by decision at 121. For Boardman, a freshman, it was his 20th win of the season.

GIRLS WRESTLING
Chambersburg 60, Shippensburg 18: In a dual meet in which only 5 bouts were contested, the Trojans won two of them and accepted 9 forfeits to defeat the Greyhounds in a Mid Penn Conference match at the CASHS Aux Gym on Wednesday evening.
“Well, it’s a team win,” Chambersburg coach Josh Sherman said. “It’s unfortunate that they didn’t have more wrestlers, but that’s the way the sport (of girls wrestling) is right now. Sometimes you’ll have teams that don’t have full lineups.”
The two wins for the Trojans (11-5) came from Alejandra Cole-Rosales at 124 and Reagan Evans at 136.
Cole-Rosales picked up a 4-point nearfall early in the second period to break a scoreless tie vs. Hadley Burns, then turned her with a half nelson for the pin. Evans took Kaylie Shope down and quickly turned her for a fall in 34 seconds.
Shippensburg (0-7) scored pins in 3 matches. Arianna Trageser pinned Kaden Gross in 1:01 at 118, Olivia Kearns — ranked No. 3 in the state — decked Piper JOnes at 130 and Reghan Keefer countered a throw attempt by Lillybeth Alcantaras at 235 for a pin in 1:45.
