GIRLS WRESTLING
Chambersburg 53, West Perry 24: The Trojans scored pins in five of six bouts in the middle of the lineup to build a 41-18 lead and went on to defeat the Mustangs in a Mid Penn Conference meet at the CASHS Aux Gym on Saturday afternoon.
From 124 pounds through 155, Chambersburg (7-3) scored five falls to take the score from 12-11 in West Perry’s favor to 41-18 in the Trojans’ favor.
“There are usually a lot of pins in girls wrestling — that’s just the way it is right now,” Chambersburg coach Josh Sherman said. “It might not be that way in a few years.”
Cortlyn Finkle got it started at 124 for the Trojans, getting a quick takedown and then flattening Camryn Stokes of West Perry (1-9) in 1:27 for just her second win.
Sherman said, “I was really happy with some of our young girls. Finkle got that takedown and then a pin — she’s a freshman with only 6 weeks of wrestling.”
Piper Jones followed with a stick in 0:58 at 130, and Reagan Evans produced another quick pin, in 18 seconds, at 136. The Mustangs got a pin back at 142, but Hadyn Fritz (148, pin in 0:53) and Daryn Glasgow (155, pin in 0:46) ran out the commanding stretch.
After a Mustangs win at 170, Chambersburg’s Aulana Stanton notched a pin in 26 seconds at 190 and Lillybeth Alcantaras received a forfeit at 235. To start off the meet, Emily Shaffner (100) earned a forfeit and Jessica Li (106) rolled to a 16-1 technical fall on three takedowns and a pair of nearfalls.
“I think overall, we had a good match,” Sherman said. “The only thing I see was we need to get tougher fighting off our back. We have a big week ahead (they face Cumberland Valley on Wednesday), so we’ll see where we’re at.”

BOYS WRESTLING
Chambersburg 34, West Perry 25: In a meet full of wild bouts, comebacks and surprises — one that the Mustangs led all the way until the final 2 matches — the Trojans came out on top in a non-league contest Saturday afternoon in the CASHS Aux Gym.
The key to Chambersburg’s victory was the performance of a trio of wrestlers who came into the meet with a combined record of 1-14. That group’s wins fueled a comeback for Chambersburg (3-1), which trailed 25-16 with three bouts left.
At 133, Ethan Paszkowski entered with a 1-6 record, but came out on top of a crazy early sequence for a pin in 0:56 over Julian Hildabrand. Paszkowski scored the first takedown and got back points, but Hildabrand reversed and had Paszkowski going to his back before he rolled through and came out on top and squeezed his man for a huge pin.
At 139, Landon Enders was making his varsity debut and turned three solid takedowns into a 9-3 victory. And at 160, Yaziel Valentin (0-4 to that point) scored a flurry of points late on the strength of two throws from his feet, to turn a 9-5 deficit into a 15-11 win.
Chambersburg coach Craig Hight said, “We still need to work on some fundamentals with Yaz, but what he did at the end worked. Enders won his first varsity match, so that should be a confidence builder.”
The Trojans trailed early 12-0 before a major decision by Isaac Brambley at 127. After all of the back-and-forth action, forfeit wins at 189 by Jaccob Stoner and at 285 by Frank Barrientos helped out, and a pin in 1:06 at 215 by Deakon Snavely clinched the team victory.
Hight said, “West Perry did a great job of continuing to wrestle, even when we scored on them. That’s something we need to do together as a team. We also need to fight a little harder out there.”
The meet had two other score fests. West Perry (3-5) got a 12-9 win at 121 from Brayden Lowe over Cody Seabolt in which Lowe got the tying point and winning point all within the final 20 seconds on a pair of locked hands violations. Ben Mullen won 10-9 over the Trojans’ Jett Rugh a 152, overcoming a 9-2 lead by Rugh in the second period.
