BOYS WRESTLING
Chambersburg advances 2 to quarters: The Trojans are competing in the prestigious King of the Mountain Tournament at Central Mountain this weekend and on the first day, they pushed two wrestlers into the quarterfinal round.
No. 9 seed Jaccob Stoner scored a pin and an 8-4 decision at 189 pounds to move into Saturday morning’s quarters, and 285-pounder Frank Barrientos, the No. 2 seed, notched a pair of pins to advance.
Two other Chambersburg kids have battled into the consolation semifinals. Justin Deneen (145) and Deakon Snavely (215) were each 3-1 for the day.
Aiden Yarnall (114) went 2-2 but has been eliminated, as did Chris Wilkerson at 215.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Altoona 53, Chambersburg 17: The Trojans had a frustrating game on offense and fell to the Mountain Lions by 36 points on Friday night on the road in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game.
Chambersburg (1-5, 0-4 MPC) scored only 4 points in the first half, and a basket by Maddie Mills was the only score from the field. Altoona (6-2, 4-0 MPC) led at the break, 39-4.
Mills scored 7 points for the Trojans and Sophie Woy totaled 4.
For the Mountain Lions, Raylin Eyer led a balanced attack with 14 points.
