GIRLS WRESTLING
Chambersburg is 4-2: The Trojans headed to Gettysburg for a 12-team dual meet tournament on Saturday and came away with a 4-2 record against a number of good teams.
Chambersburg (5-2), which opened the season ranked No. 16 in the state, put up wins over Wilson (57-18), Lampeter-Strasburg (53-21), North Allegheny (39-30) and Curwensville (36-30), while dropping matches to Gettysburg (48-30) and Emmaus (42-36).
“In the two we lost we had a couple of bouts where we got pinned when we had the lead,” Trojan coach Josh Sherman said. “Those hurt, but I don’t want the girls to stop being aggressive. We were in the pool that had mostly full teams, so we got to wrestle a lot of matches against good competition.”
Four Chambersburg wrestlers finished an undefeated day. Reagan Evans was 6-0 with 6 pins (including one in 10 seconds) at 136 pounds, Aulana Stanford was 6-0 with 4 falls at 190, Piper Jones was 5-0 at 130 with 3 pins and Kayden Gross was 3-0 with a pin at 124.
Sherman said, “Some of our young girls learned a little about wrestling in an event like this, so that will help them.”
