HERSHEY — The 86th PIAA Cross Country Championships were held Saturday at the Hershey Parkview Course and of the 25 Franklin County runners who qualified for the event, none were able to bring home a medal.

In Class 3A boys, Shippensburg junior Rylan Asper placed 30th, clocking a time of 16:41.

Chambersburg senior Julian Clark was unfortunate to take a fall early in the race, but got  up and worked himself back to finish 33rd in 16:47.

Trojan coach Jim Boyer said, “Clark fell about 400 meters into the race, so with that happening, it was pretty impressive to see him get all the way back up to 33rd and still in the top 10 of District 3 runners.”

Chambersburg qualified for the team championship, but finished 17th of 21 teams.

“It was tough to come back from a stellar District 3 race last weekend,” Boyer said. “But we had an exciting experience at states and can be proud of being the 17th-best team in the state.”

In Class 1A, Shalom Christian also qualified as a team, and the Flames placed 16th among 22 teams.

Shalom’s William Davis was the first runner on his team to cross the line, in 18:19. Southern Fulton’s Teagan Ritz placed 89th in 18:37.

In girls Class 3A, Chambersburg qualified two individual runners, both juniors. Natalie Quinn took 31st with a time of 19:49 and Brook Boone placed 108th in 20:51.

Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “I thought Natalie and Brook represented us well today. They had fantastic seasons and have now been a part of three state meets, so they have a ton of experience headed into next year.

“Natalie ran a beautiful race and strategically pulled off a great finish. She was 71st at the mile mark and just gradually moved up the whole way. She beat a bunch of girls that beat her last week at districts.”

Julia Madison of Southern Fulton was the area’s top placer in girls Class 1A, taking 32nd in 21:21. Teammate Mia Hiller was 71st in 22:14.
