GREENCASTLE — It is not a surprise that Greencastle-Antrim and Middletown will meet for a District 3 Class 3A girls volleyball championship on Thursday night.
The Blue Devils won the title last year, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Blue Raiders 3-2 to earn its first district volleyball crown. The year before, Middletown was the District 3 champion.
And neither team has lost this year.
Greencastle (20-0) swamped Garden Spot 3-0 in a semifinal match Tuesday night at home, winning games of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-3. The Blue Raiders (18-0) dusted York Suburban 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-17).
So it will be game on Thursday, with the match slated to start at 7:30 at Dallastown H.S.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more from them tonight,” G-A coach Madee Goodwin said. “Now it’s time to prepare for Thursday.”
Kylie Kerns had a monster night for the Blue Devils. At the net, Kerns hit an astounding 10-for-11 on kill attempts. She was just as good at the service line, racking up 21 points, which included 10 aces.
Then she added 10 digs and 15 assists to her stat line.
Goodwin said, “Kylie was spot on for the offense tonight.”
For Greencastle, which made only 2 serve receive errors and 5 service errors, Abby Eagler had 11 kills and 8 digs; Wren Roberts contributed 8 points and 10 digs; Jordyn Wagner had 7 kills and 3 blocks; Kaitlyn Alvey served for 9 points and assisted on 16 kills; Kinzee Hudson had 8 digs and 5 assists; and Hayden Baer had 4 kills and 5 digs.
“We came in with a game plan and the girls stuck to it and kept the energy high,” Goodwin said.
