Boys Soccer: McConnellsburg 15, Mount Union 0: On October 13th, McConnellsburg Spartans (17-0, 9-0 ICC-E) hosted the Mount Union Trojans in a conference rematch and secured their 10th consecutive shutout and 15th of the season.  The Spartans dominated the game.  They scored 11 goals in the first half, showcasing precise coordination and strong offense.  The game ended with a commanding win for the Spartans, highlighting both their offensive prowess and defensive strength.

In the first half, the first short kick came after eight minutes from forward Gavin DeShong assisted by left wing Grady Shives. The second goal, a short kick, was scored a minute later by Grady Shives and assisted by Tucker Hedge. The third goal scored another minute later was by center mid-fielder Hoyt Glen assisted by DeShong.  The fourth short kick goal was scored in the 12th minute of play by Glenn and was assisted by DeShong,  The fifth unassisted goal was scored in the 18th minute by Jace Fletcher from 20 yards out arching to the back of the net. The sixth goal, with assist from Glenn, was scored in the 23rd minute by Brayden Ramsey, a short-range kick to the left goal post that ricocheted into the net.  After 29 minutes of play, the seventh short kick goal was served up by Callen Mellott to Shives.  A minute later, the eighth goal was scored by DeShong assisted by Glenn. With 33 minutes elapsed, Glenn struck a shot on goal.  The ball was mishandled, and Shives placed the loose ball in the net for the ninth score.  Just over five minutes to go, Glenn fed Carson Washabaugh for his shot on goal, a banger on the top rail that went in for the 10th score.  With just over two minutes to play, a Spartan high kick to Glenn, who attempted a shot on goal.  The ball was deflected off a defender, then Glenn regained possession and delivered a short kick past the goalkeeper securing the team’s 11th and final goal of the half.  This half demonstrated an exceptional degree of offensive coordination and dominance on the scoreboard.

Six minutes into the second half, Glenn dribbled into the secondary and crossed the ball to DeShong for a short pass for the 12th goal. Two minutes later, a Jackson Skiles’ venerable corner kick was effortlessly headed in by Glenn for the 13th goal.  Fifteen minutes in, the right wing launched a firm kick that reached the back of the net over the keeper’s outstretched arms for the 14th goal.  The final goal with six minutes remaining was by a mid-fielder and it was an unassisted shot that was mishandled by the goalie and crossed the goal-line.

McConnellsburg Defeats Tussey Mountain in Four Sets

Girls Volleyball:  McConnellsburg 3, Tussey Mountain 1:On October 13th, McConnellsburg Lady Spartans hosted the Tussey Mountain Lady Titans in a cross-conference rematch.  The teams met previously on September 8th, and the Lady Spartans won the match 3-1 (sets one, two, and four).  Here, the Lady Spartans continued their dominance and stayed strong down the stretch, earning a 3–1 win over the Lady Titans to improve to 13-7-2, (5-2 ICC-S) on the season, and their fourth consecutive win.

Before the game started, a senior team member recognition was held.  Those acknowledged include players Kendall Earley, Janiah Lowery, Jersey Poffenberger, and Alexis Strait, and statistician Zoe Shearer.

Up next: the Lady Spartans complete the regular season with an away game at county rival Southern Fulton on October 14th at 6 p.m.  The Spartans defeated the Indians 3-1 on September 19th.  District playoffs start October 22nd.
