Chambersburg 1, Central Dauphin 0: A determined solo effort by Kadence Decker resulted in the game’s only goal as the Trojans sneaked past the Rams for the second time this season in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Thursday night at Trojan Stadium.
In the 22nd minute of the first half, Decker challenged CD’s central defender, stripped the ball from her, charged into the penalty area and tucked the ball away and into the net.
“The game was back-and-forth — we created a few chances that we weren’t able to finish,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said. “CD (10-7) provided several threats as well, but we maintained our shape and organization behind the ball.”
It was the final home game for seven seniors for the Trojans (8-5-1, 6-4-1 MPC), who are currently inside the cut line for the District 3 Class 4A playoffs.
Unruh said, “I’m so proud of these girls who fought for each other and had the emotional motivation for the seniors. (Goalkeeper) Ashley Mitchell made an amazing save, somehow grabbing the ball out of the air when it was goal-bound. Marley Onomastico was in several defensive battles and seemed to come out victorious in each one.”
