Chbg. roundup: Girls tennis edges Carlisle, 3-2

GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg 3, Carlisle 2: The Trojans picked up a huge win Friday afternoon by winning all three singles matches to edge the Thundering Herd at Norlo Park in a Mid Penn Commonwealth encounter.

For Chambersburg (7-6, 2-4 MPC), the singles winners were Leah Wadel at No. 1, Aria Barbiero at No. 2 and Olivia Keller at No. 3. Wadel won 6-0, 6-0 over  Adina Dedic, Barbiero won 6-3, 6-2 over Brianna Still and Keller took a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Macie Burge.

Trojan coach Niko Mucci said, “I was extremely proud of the group’s efforts in this match, but especially proud of Aria Barbiero for filling in at No. 2 for her first varsity action. She ended up not only winning, but also clinching the match for us.”

At No. 1 doubles, Chambersburg’s Gretta Hill and Gwen Sefcheck fell 7-5, 7-6 in a close match, while Nina Kuchar and Issie Slimmer were beaten 6-3, 3-6 (2-10 in tiebreaker).

GIRLS GOLF
Ship’s Beckenbaugh wins Mid Penn title: Kaydee Beckenbaugh of Shippensburg captured the Mid Penn Conference championship on Friday, besting the field with a 6-over par score of 77 at Range End G.C.

Beckenbaugh and Waynesboro’s Abby Byers (85) both qualified for the District 3 Championships. Chambersburg’s Abby Rensch did not make the cut.

Beckenbaugh shot a 2-over 37 on the front with 7 pars, and had a 40 on the back, which included a birdie on the par 5 No. 17 hole. Byers scored one birdie, on the par 5 No. 1 and had nines of 42 and 43.

BOYS GOLF
None advance to districts: Area boys golfers were blanked on Friday when the Mid Penn Conference championships were held at Range End G.C. The top 12 finishers qualified for the District 3 tournament.

Shippensburg’s Ben Horgos shot a 7-over par 78, along with Taylor Blair of James Buchanan, but they were 2 strokes off the cut line.

Other area golfers included Abram Stock of JB (82) and Camden Eby of Greencastle-Antrim (86).
