G-A roundup: Volleyball team takes down Bulldogs in 3

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Big Spring 0: The Blue Devils kept the good times rolling against one of the better teams in the Mid Penn Colonial on Tuesday night in Newville, taking care of the Bulldogs in 3 games (25-11, 25-23 and 25-12).

Big Spring could not stop outside hitter Abby Eagler, who pounded down 20 kills and hit .472. Kylie Kerns was nearly perfect, accounting for 9 kills on 11 swings. As a team, the Blue Devils (8-0, 7-0 MPC) hit .419% and made only 11 hitting errors.

Kerns also contributed 10 service points with 3 aces, 20 assists and 9 digs. Wren Roberts had 5 kills, 11 points and 9 digs.

Also for the Blue Devils, Kaitlyn Alvey had 8 points and 20 assists, Kinzee Hudson racked up 16 digs and had 8 points, and Jordyn Wagner came up with 3 blocks.

FIELD HOCKEY
Gettysburg 4, Greencastle-Antrim 1: The Warriors scored early and captured a Mid Penn Colonial win Monday afternoon over the Blue Devils in Gettysburg.

“We had a tough game,” G-A coach Keara Allshouse said. “We didn’t play our best to start the game and we couldn’t capitalize on some good opportunities in the last quarter.”

Rowan Shubert scored the lone goal for Greencastle (4-4, 3-4 MPC), assisted by Emily Fowler.

Acacia Long made 2 defensive saves for the Blue Devils.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Greencastle-Antrim 23, James Buchanan 32: The Blue Devils finished 1-2 and 5-6 to help subdue the Rockets in a Mid Penn Colonial race in Mercersburg on Tuesday afternoon.

Noah Parks returned from some time off and took first for Greencastle (3-3, 2-3 MPC) with a time of 17:58. He was followed by teammate Logan Bohrer in second (18:09).

James Buchanan took the next two spots with Isaac Diehl (3rd, 18:19) and Max Embree (4th, 18:36).

But the Blue Devils put two more across the line — Billy Bender in 5th (18:51) and Ryan Gearhart in sixth (19:31), plus Ace Monn was 9th in 20:35.

The Rockets’ other scorers were Johnny Martin (7th, 19:45), Ayden Shanholtz (8th, 20:19) and Ronnie Martin (10th, 21:01).

Avery Russell

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
James Buchanan 22, Greencastle-Antrim 50: The Blue Devils’ Avery Russell won the race, but the Rockets came in with 8 of the next 9 runners to earn a Mid Penn Colonial victory on Tuesday afternoon in Mercersburg.

Russell won the race in 21:55, more than 2 minutes in front of the runner-up. But G-A’s next finisher was Sophia Denlinger in 5th place (25:08), while Monica Schemel was 11th in 27:18. The Blue Devils are 0-6 (0-5 MPC).

JB’s top 5 runners included Kaitlyn Dean (2nd, 24:02), Kimber Yeager (3rd, 24:30), Sarah Oakman (4th, 24:54), Bella Helm (6th, 25:56) and Kayleigh Wilker (7th, 26:33).
