GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg 4, Mechanicsburg 1: The Trojans ended a 3-match losing skid in a big way by subduing the Wildcats in a non-league match on the road Monday afternoon.

“After having opportunities to beat a good Palmyra team in our last match, it was great to see the girls battle back in several matches where we lost sets,” Chambersburg coach Niko Mucci said.

Two of the matches went to 3 sets and Chambersburg (4-5) won both of them. At No. 2 doubles, Issie Slimmer and Nina Kuchar won the first set 6-2, was nipped in the second one, 7-6, but came back strong to win 6-0 in the third.

At No. 3 singles, Olivia Keller had a rough start, falling 6-0 to Alexis Fedoriw, but rallied to win the next two, 6-4 and 6-1.

Mucci said, “Olivia Keller coming back to win after an 0-6 first set is the kind of mental toughness we’ve been working on this season. I’m very proud of her and the all the girls’ continued hard work, improvement and belief.”

Also in doubles, the No. 1 team of Gwen Sefcheck and Gretta Hill lost the first set 6-3, then won 6-4 to even it up. The duo for Mechanicsburg (4-5) then retired.

The Trojans’ other win came at No. 2 singles, where Charlie Kalathas won 6-1, 6-0. Leah Wadel was defeated 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, New Oxford 1: A big night for Ava Zeigler helped push the Trojans to a non-league victory over the Colonials on Monday evening on the road.

Zeigler piled up 37 assists — plus 12 service points, 4 aces and 16 digs — to push her over the 1,000-assist mark for her career.

“Congratulations to Ava for reaching 1,000 assists,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “That is a major accomplishment and it is an indication of all the hard work she has put into this sport.”

Olivia Shearer had 16 kills and one block, Nizaya Hawkins had 9 kills and a block and Riley Cramer made 7 kills and added a block for the Trojans (5-2).

Kaylie Stull had a good night on defense, making 33 digs. Lexi Poe had 13 digs and 12 points, with 4 aces.

Frelin said, “New Oxford is a scrappy team and played really good defense. But we kept fighting and made the plays when we needed to. We served tough, and ran an effective offense.”

FIELD HOCKEY
Central Dauphin 6, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans fell to the Rams in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game on Monday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Chambersburg is now 1-7 (0-7 MPC).

GIRLS GOLF
Trojans’ Rensch is 16th: The Mid Penn Conference held a girls golf match at Rich Valley on Monday afternoon, and Chambersburg’s Abby Rensch took 16th place in a field of 47 players.

Rensch shot an 89, which included birdies on a pair of par 5 holes — No. 8 and No. 13. But five double bogeys and a triple knocked her down in the standings.
