SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 10, Cedar Cliff 0: The Trojans took a little while to get started, but got rolling by the third inning and beat the Colts in a 5-inning Mid Penn Commonwealth game Monday afternoon at Norlo Park.

Josey Snavely

“The girls made it a fantastic Senior Day for our two seniors (Karley Skultety and Kori Leedy), the way they displayed support for them and played for them,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “Kori was lights out on the mound (4 innings, 1 hit) and Issie (Slimmer) came in to shut the door and give us a chance to score the last run (and end the game).”

The Trojans (14-4, 11-3 MPC) led 1-0, then scored 4 runs in the third and 4 more in the fourth inning.

Skultety said, “We didn’t hit like we are capable, but we manufactured runs to get the job done. Slow pitching seems to give us fits. Bree (Paetow) had a nice day setting the table for us and continues to wreak havoc on the bases.”

Paetow had 2 triples in 3 at-bats and scored 3 times. Addison Gsell, Sanay Jones, Kendall Flory, Josie Snavely and Leedy each produced an RBI. Jones had a double.

GIRLS LACROSSE
Mechanicsburg 16, Chambersburg 13: The Trojans fell to the Wildcats in their final game of the season Monday on the road in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest, but still had a successful season.

Mollie Yardley-Gontz

“I’d say we have had a memorable season with lots of positive things to continue to grow on,” Chambersburg coach Shane Henry said. “This team has set a benchmark for girls lacrosse. We accomplished a ot in a short period of time. We have a freshman goalie with well over 100 saves (Reese Heverley), a sophomore attack with over 100 career points and closing in on 100 goals (Reagan Barrett), and freshman Brynn Sekel recorded her 100th draw control.”

The Trojans (7-11, 6-10 MPC) kept the score close until a spell in the third period when they went down a man twice and Mechanicsburg (5-12) tallied 4 goals.

Barrett scored 4 times, Mollie Yardley-Gontz also had 4 goals and added 3 assists and 3 draws, Sekel had 3 goals, 2 assists, 7 caused turnovers and 8 draws, Mara Costolo had one goal and 4 draw controls, McKenna Myers scored once, Adele Henry had 4 caused TOs and 2 draws and Heverley made 15 saves.

“Mollie was a shining star tonight,” Henry said. “She was all over the field, throwing assists and scoring goals. Every time I looked up she was doing something with the ball. And she’s only a sophomore.”

BOYS LACROSSE
Mechanicsburg 17, Chambersburg 7: The Wildcats handed the Trojans a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat at Trojan Stadium on Monday night in the last game of the season, but Chambersburg still had a record-setting year.

Kellen Sanders

“We were playing without our second-leading point scorer and they are a playoff team with the best defenseman and goalie in the league,” Trojan coach Joey Wilmot said.

Blake Dupont had 5 goals and an assist for Chambersburg (8-10, 7-9 MPC), Ryan Cosey and Tavian Ferguson scored a goal each, Quinn Makosy had 3 assists and Austin Kireta had an assist.

Goalie Kellen Sanders made 8 saves to give him 207 for the season, breaking the school record of 205 held by Dan Godlasky in 2009.

Cosey set new marks for goals (77) and points (92) in a season and also for most caused turnovers for an attackman (19). In addition, fellow attackmen Dupont (49 goals, 60 points) and Matt Tucker (41 goals, 62 points) joined with Cosey to be the highest-scoring attack trio in school history by 30 goals. Makosky’s 33 assists was the third-highest all-time.

Wilmot said, “We were a bit young and inexperienced this year, but we improved tremendously. We return our entire attack group, our goalie and our three starting defenders, plus our second- and third-leading scorers from the midfield. We are excited about the future of our program.”
