Fannett-Metal (12-4, 7-1) hosted the Spartans from Mcconnellsburg on Senior Night with a share of the ICC South Division Championship on the line.
Wednesday night’s 7-3 victory over the undefeated Southern Fulton Indians put the Tigers in a position to be
co-champions with the Indians if they could secure a victory over the Spartans.
The Spartans (9-7) took an early 1-0 lead when Hoyt Glenn singled to start the game and scored on a RBI groundout by Kade Gress. That would be the only run Tiger’s Starter Wade Appleby would surrender the rest of the day.
Mcconnellsburg starter Kohen Hall held the Tigers scoreless until the bottom of the second inning. Noah Naugle sparked the offense with a one out single. He moved around to third on two passed balls and scored on Tucker Seibert’s sacrifice fly to tie the game.
The Tigers added a run in the second when Broc Hostler scored on Ayden Ryder’s RBI sacrifice fly to give the Tiger’s a 2-1 lead.
With Appleby keeping the Spartans bats quiet, the Tigers offense scored three runs in the fourth to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Landon Arnold cleared the bases on a double to the right center gap scoring Logan Hall, Broc Hostler and Jake Coffman.
After Appleby worked out of a fifth inning jam with a bases loaded strikeout, the Tigers offense erupted for six unanswered runs to put away the Spartans 11-1.
One out Singles by Adam Hammond and Noah Naugle and a walk by Tucker Seibert loaded the bases. Logan Hall’s 2 RBI single scored two runs. Broc Hostler stroked a RBI double scoring another run. Jake Coffman’s line drive up the middle scored Hall. Landon Arnold was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wade Appleby ended the game with a line drive scoring Hostler and Coffman.
Wade Appleby settled in after the first inning. The Senior righty allowed only one run, scattered six hits, had five strikeouts and issued only one walk in five innings. He finished on 64 pitches in a solid performance .
Mcconnellsburg starter Kohen Hall took the loss. He gave up nine runs, six earned, seven hits, four walks and two strikeouts. Reliever Marpoe faced four batters giving up three hits and a walk. He was charged with two runs.
Landon Arnold paced the Tigers offense with a pair of hits and 3 RBIs. Noah Naugle and Logan Hall had a pair of hits. Broc Hostler scored three runs and Jake Coffman scored a pair of runs.
