Greencastle bumped its record to 9-8 and remains in the hunt for a District 3 playoff spot.

G-A coach Eric Shaner said, “We had three starters out, either sick or because of injury, so some guys had to play out of position. But they really picked up for the guys who couldn’t be there.”

Spring Grove (8-12) led 3-1 before the Blue Devils posted 5 runs in the fourth, 2 in the fifth and put up a big crooked number with 9 in the sixth.

Avery Horst, who was 2-for-4 and scored 3 runs, belted a grand slam in that 9-run inning.

Landon Myers was 3-for-3 with a double and racked up 5 runs batted in, Manny Brookens was 2-for-5 and knocked in 3 runs and Carter McCauley was 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

“We put together a lot of good at-bats today,” Shaner said, “and were grinding through everything, even when we were down 3-1.”

Ben Horst (4-0) threw the first 5 innings to get the win, giving up 6 hits, 2 walks and 4 earned runs. Manny Brookens added an inning of 1-hit ball.
