Greencastle-Antrim 6, Boiling Springs 5: The Blue Devils hung on by the skin of their teeth to earn a Mid Penn Colonial road victory over the Bubblers on Wednesday afternoon.

Ben Horst

Greencastle went to the bottom of the seventh with a 6-5 lead, but relief pitcher Cam Niland, who had allowed no hits in 3.2 scoreless innings, walked a batter, hit a batter, got two outs, but went to a 2-0 count on the next batter. G-A coach Eric Shaner brought in Ben Horst, who took the count to 3-0 before coming back to get a strikeout on a 3-2 curveball to end the game and earn a save.

“We feel like we’ve been in pressure situations in almost every game, and we’ve had a lot of tough-luck games lately,” Shaner said. “So it was nice to see us win one of these games. A lot of guys did a lot of little things that added up to a win.”

Trailing 2-1, Greencastle (7-5, 6-4 MPC) scored four runs in the third. Andrew Weaver got a base hit, moved to second on an error and scored on a hit by Elvin Robles. Carter McCauley put down a bunt and after a Bubbler error, runners were on second and third. Nolan put down a squeeze bunt to score Robles. Cam Rakaczewski roped a double to the leftfield wall for an RBI and he scored on two wild pitches.

After Boiling Springs (7-6, 6-4 MPC) tied it up, the Blue Devils went back on top in the sixth on Landon Myers’ RBI single. Robles was 2-for-3 with a triple for G-A.
