BASEBALL
James Buchanan 1, Greencastle-Antrim 0, 9 innings: A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Rockets to a Mid Penn Colonial win over the Blue Devils in Mercersburg on Monday afternoon.
Jimmy Bell led the rally for JB (8-4, 4-4 MPC) when he was hit by a pitch. Jake Miller then singled and an error on a ball hit by Drew Crouse loaded the bases. Carter Hissong then drew a walk to end the game.
The teams’ pitchers combined to allow only 10 hits and give up only 6 walks, and struck out 25 batters.
Greencastle coach Eric Shaner said, “We need to find ways to change our approach with two strikes. We’re not making adjustments and because of that, the results aren’t any different. We had opportunities — we had a runner on third with less than two outs a few times — but couldn’t get him in.
“We wasted some very good pitching today.”
Carter McCauley went 6 innings for G-A (6-5, 5-4 MPC), allowing 4 hits and fanning 10. Avery Horst was tagged with the loss.
For James Buchanan, Jake Miller went 5.2 innings, gave up 3 hits and struck out 10. Hissong pitched 2.1 innings (2 hits) and Crouse got the win for his hitless one inning.
