McConnellsburg 7 Claysburg-Kimmel 2

Reese Alexander showcased his batting prowess with three hits in as many at-bats, leading the Spartans to a decisive 7-2 victory over Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs on Friday. Alexander kicked things off with a double in the first inning and followed up with singles in both the third and fourth innings.

The Spartans jumped ahead early in the bottom of the first. Alexander’s double to center field set the stage for runs scored by Hoyt Glenn, Ben Sattazahn, and Alexander himself, courtesy of Kade Gress’ groundout and Kohen Hall’s sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs scored their first one run in the top of the second on a solo home run to left field by Landon Douglas.  In the third inning, Gavin Treon singled scoring their only other run.

Gress secured the win for the Spartans on the mound, delivering five solid innings. The lefty allowed six hits and two runs, striking out three while walking four. Hoyt Glenn took over in relief, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and just one walk while giving up no hits.

On the opposite side, Treon took the loss for the Bulldogs. Over three innings, the starter surrendered three runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out two and walking three. Brayden Haney stepped in for relief, pitching three innings and conceding four unearned runs on two hits, while striking out three and walking three.

The Spartans had a sharp eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game with Hall and Glenn gaining two walks apiece.  The Spartans defense broke two bases loaded situations over two separate innings and were errorless on the field.

Treon led the Bulldogs with two hits in three at bats.  Treon and Douglas each drove in one run.
