SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 15, Cedar Cliff4 : The Trojans put up runs in 6 of the 7 innings to pummel the Colts in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Wednesday at Highland Park.
Chambersburg (5-2, 3-2 MPC) won its fourth straight game. Six of the Trojans’ 15 hits were doubles.
“Although the score looks like we had a really good day, I thought we played a little selfish at times and didn’t play with a lot of energy early,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “We did some good things, but played down to our competition a bit. We did not play to our level.”
Trojan leadoff batter Bree Paetow had 4 hits in 6 at-bats, scored 3 runs and drove in 5. Karley Skultety was 2-for-5 with 3 runs batted in.
Also for Chambersburg, Erissa Varner was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Malia Cramer and Sanay Jones each went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
In the pitching department, Kori Leedy went the first 3 innings to get the win, allowing 2 hits and a run. Issie Slimmer pitched 2 innings and allowed an unearned run and Jones finished up with 2 scoreless innings against the Colts (0-8, 0-3 MPC).
Skultety said, “We should be happy with a win, but we aren’t satisfied with how we played overall. But our baserunning was excellent and we will take that as a positive.”
BASEBALL
Cedar Cliff 2, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans were held to just 2 hits Wednesday afternoon and dropped a Mid Penn Commonwealth game to the Colts at Greene Township Park.
Against Cedar Cliff pitcher Peyton Price, Chambersburg (1-7, 0-5 MPC) got singles from Keaton Barclay and Kadyn McMullen, Barclay was issued a walk and the team struck out 10 times. The Trojans went down 1-2-3 in 4 of the innings and never advanced a runner to second base.
Ryne Mills had a strong day on the mound for the Trojans. He went 6 innings and allowed 6 hits, 2 earned runs and one walk while striking out 3. Wyatt Martin pitched the seventh inning, giving up only a walk.
The Colts (4-2, 4-0 MPC) scored both runs in the top of the first on an RBI double by Grant Enders and a run-scoring ground ball by Price.
BOYS TENNIS
Chambersburg 3, Central Dauphin East 2: The Trojans won both doubles matches to pull out a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on Wednesday afternoon at Norlo Park.
The No. 1 doubles team of Dhruv Patel and Caden Brenize won with ease, 6-2, 6-1, over their opponents. At No. 2, Nate Weis and Eli Keeler had a tougher time, but still won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Those two wins, combined with Ian Flores’ tight win at No. 1 singles (6-0, 5-7, 6-2), gave Chambersburg (3-7, 1-3 MPC) the points needed for the victory.
At No. 2, Luke Detweiler fell 7-6, 1-6, 6-0, and Micah Detweiler was tripped up, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.
