Southern Fulton Indians Defeats Tussey Mountain On Back Of Clutch Display From Jett Burger

Sr, Jett Burger drove in five runs on three hits to lead Southern Fulton (6-0, 2-0) past Tussey Mountain 15-4 on Tuesday in Saxton.  Burger singled in the second scoring two, singled in the third scoring two, and singled in the fourth scoring one.

The Indians struck quickly in the first when Paul Hendershot doubled, scoring Joel Fitz.

Southern Fulton then erupted for five runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. Toryn Garner induced Trentin Cain to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Joel Fitz laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, Mark Fitz singled, scoring one run, and Burger singled, scoring two runs.

The Indians piled on six more runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. Joel Fitz drew a walk, scoring one run, Hendershot doubled, scoring two runs, Mark Fitz singled, scoring one run, and Burger singled, scoring two runs.

Joel Fitz (2-0) earned the win for Southern Fulton. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and four runs (three earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking three. Garner took the loss for Tussey Mountain. The starting pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Kaiden Schriever pitched one and two-thirds innings of no-run ball for Southern Fulton in relief. The hurler allowed one hit, striking out one and walking none.

The Indians piled up 11 hits in the game. M. Fitz, Hendershot, Burger and Brooks Norris each collected multiple hits for the visitors. 

Southern Fulton will travel to Virginia on Friday to take on the defending Va state Champ – Rappahannock-Warsaw.  The first game of the weekend doubleheader starts at 6pm Friday night.   The second game will start at 11:00am Saturday.
