Fannett-Metal (2-0) visited Southern Huntingdon in an ICC cross conference game and rolled to a 23-6 four inning victory over the Rockets.
The Tigers struck first with 3 runs in the top of the inning. Jake Coffman stroked a one out single up the middle to get things started. Landon Arnold singled to right moving Coffman to third. A fly ball was misplayed by the Rockets right fielder that scored Coffman, and moved Arnold and Appleby to second and third. Adam Hammond grounded out scoring Arnold and Ayden Ryder had a RBI single to score Appleby.
Tigers starter Wade Appleby got out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning with an inning ending strikeout. The Tigers offense immediately went to work in the second inning scoring seven more runs to push the lead to 10-0.
In the big second inning Logan Hall led off with a single and swiped second. Tucker Seibert was hit by a pitch. After an out, Jake Coffman singled to load the bases. Landon Arnold drew an RBI walk and Wade Appleby stroked a 2 RBI single scoring Seibert and Coffman. Adam Hammond followed with another 2 RBI single scoring Arnold and Appleby. Hammond and Courtesy runner Kristan Koser crossed the plate on a RBI walk by Hall and an RBI groundout by Seibert.
The Rockets answered back in the second inning pushing five runs across to cut the lead to 10-5. The Tigers self -destructed in the inning commiting three errors, walking two batters and giving up three hits. “Give SHC credit that inning, we left the ball in the middle of the zone, they hit the ball and we didn’t make the routine plays”, Coffman said.
The Tigers got two runs back in the third when Adam Hammond knocked in Coffman and Arnold. Tiger starter Appleby gave up a lead off single to start the inning. He would come around to score on an errant throw on a double play attempt. That would be the last Rocket run of the game.
The Tigers brought on the mercy rule with a 11 run fourth inning that saw the Rockets use three different relief pitchers. Nine straight batters reached base in the inning. F-M had 7 hits and drew 6 walks in the inning. Jake Coffman, Landon Arnold, Wade Appleby, and Logan Hall all had RBI hits in the inning. Arnold unleashed a 2 run triple in his second at bat of the inning and Adam Hammond stroked a 2 run single down the line to complete the inning. The Tigers sent 16 batters to the plate that inning.
Tiger starter Wade Appleby went all four innings to get the win. He had 4 K, 3 BB and gave up 6 hits. Only 2 of the 6 runs were earned.
Offensively, Senior Adam Hammond had 7 RBIs on the day on 3 hits. Seniors Jake Coffman and Landon Arnold had 3 hits each and both scored 5 runs each on the day. Arnold had a double and 4 RBIs. Wade Appleby had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Ayden Ryder and Logan Hall both had a pair of hits. Broc Hostler had the other Tiger hit.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they host Forbes Road at 4:30.
