Chambersburg roundup: Track & field teams have smooth openers

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 109, Mifflin County 41: The Trojans had a big advantage on the track and totally dominated the field events Tuesday in a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over the Huskies at Trojan Stadium.

Chambersburg had a 54-9 advantage in the field. The winners included Yanaiah Smith in the shot put (29-10.5), Serafina Richards in the discus (96-9), Cameron Bender in the javelin (96-9), Addison Zimmerman in the long jump (15-9), Katerina Small in the high jump (4-6), Olivia Coy in the triple jump (32-3.5) and Alaina Morris in the pole vault (9-0).

On the track, freshman Addy Brubaker had nice debut, winning the 200 and running on the winning 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays; Madelyn Koons took first in the 1600 and ran on the 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 relays, and Maggie Holtry took the 400, was on the 4 x 400 relay and was third in the 200.

Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “Addy had a really strong day for us and will be a big help in the sprints and relays. Mady ran a great anchor leg for us in a tight 4 x 8 relay and came back to take the 1600. Maggie had a busy day. Our field event crew had a great day.”

Individual winners on the track included Jaxin Frazer in the 100 hurdles (13.3), Koons in the 1600 (5:42.1), Holtry won the 400 (1:03.2), Brubaker captured the 200 in 26.9 and Dana Rosenberry was first in the 3200 in 13:04.

The 4 x 100 team of Frazer, Zimmerman, Mimi Sistrunk and Brubaker (51.8), the 4 x 400 relay team of Brubaker, Coy, Koons and Holtry (4:22.3) and the 4 x 800 relay of Ellianna Rife, Brook Boone, Kaylie Savage and Koons (10:34) were all winners.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 115, Mifflin County 34: The Trojans were dominant across the board in their season opener Tuesday at Trojan Stadium, defeating Mid Penn Commonwealth opponent Mifflin County by 81 points.

Aiden Alleman earned two individual victories on the track, taking first in the 1600 (4:31.6) and 800 (2:02.2), while Jonathan Dawe collected wins in the 110 hurdles (15.8) and the 300 hurdles (40.7), both in personal best times.

In addition, Kason Besecker was the 100 winner in 11.0, Daniel Casagrandi took the 400 in 51.6, Blake Mallast picked up the 200 in 21.9 and Liam Kirkpatrick was a winner in the 3200 in 9:48.5.

All three relay teams also finished first: the 4 x 800 of Kaden Rife, Kirkpatrick, Boston Vincenti and Alleman (9:38.40), the 4 x 100 of Besecker, Walker Truett, Mallast and Antonio Harrison (42.9) and the 4 x 400 of Dawe, Jackson Dawe, Cobe Penick and Casagrandi (3:38.6).

Chambersburg earned four first places in the field — Jude Grillo in the shot put (41.6), Alexis Garcia in the discus (102-10), Trever Luther in the long jump (20-4) and Luke Mertz in the pole vault (12-0).

Trojan coach Jim Boyer said, “Despite being only 11 practices into the official outdoor season, the guys displayed some performances that we might not expect to see until mid-season. We swept seven events and won all three relays, and that  allowed us to dominate the scoreboard.”

BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Cumberland Valley 3, Chambersburg 0: The Eagles won the Mid Penn Commonwealth match at CASHS Field House in three straight games over the Trojans (1-1, 0-1 MPC).

BOYS TENNIS
Cedar Cliff 5, Chambersburg 0: The Colts blanked the Trojans (1-2) in a non-league match Tuesday afternoon.
