McConnellsburg Ignites Over Westinghouse

McConnellsburg 68 Westinghouse 26.  On February 19th, the District 5/8 Class AA #1 seed Spartans hosted #8 seed Westinghouse Bulldogs.  The Spartans broke out 35 points in the first quarter to go onto a decisive win and advance to the semi-final round.

In the first two minutes, the Spartans scored eight unanswered points with strong backcourt defense causing Bulldog turnovers.  By the end of the quarter, Hoyt Glenn had 15 points and Brayden Ramsey added 11, giving the Spartans a 35-7 lead.  During the second quarter, the Bulldogs were outscored 18 to 4, with Dom Jefferson adding 11 points, and resulting in the Spartans entering halftime with a resounding lead of 53-11.

At the commencement of the third quarter, the 30-point differential mercy rule was implemented for the twelfth time this season during the second half. The third quarter concluded with Ramsey contributing nine additional points, resulting in the Spartans leading by 66 to 18. The fourth quarter progressed swiftly, with the bench players assuming command, as the starting players retired for the evening after successfully completing their assignments. The final score of 68 to 26 marked the Spartans’ 21st consecutive victory.

The Spartans had three players scoring in double figures: Ramsey led all scorers with 23 points, Glenn added 18 points, and Jefferson added 13 points.

The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matchups by 20 points or more this season and have extended their dominating performance to a 21-game win streak, with 21 wins by double digits and nine wins by 40+ points.
