Fannett-Metal hosted Hyndman in the first round of the District 5A playoffs and rolled to a 74-37 victory over the Hornets. The Tigers entered the playoffs as the 3rd seed while the Hornets were the 6th seed. The Tigers will advance to Friday’s semifinal matchup against the second-seeded Forbes Road Cardinals. The Cardinals own two victories over the Tigers this season.
The Tigers put tonight’s game away early with a 35-point outburst in the opening quarter. The Tigers defense created several scoring opportunities in the quarter. They also shot the ball extremely well in the opening quarter, with six different players reaching the scoring column. Landon Arnold had 16 points, Broc Hostler hit for 8 points, Jake Coffman scored 5 points, while Evan Wingert, Tucker Seibert, and Gage McClure also added a bucket each.
In the second quarter, the Tigers continued to increase their lead to go into the half leading 52-22. Evan Wingert had the hot hand, scoring 11 points. Broc Hostler and Jake Coffman knocked down treys in the quarter.
The second half started with a running clock in a quick played half. The Tigers closed out the game with a decisive 74-37 win and their fourth straight victory.
Landon Arnold led the Tigers offense with 23 points. He added 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Evan Wingert scored 17 points and added 3 steals. Broc Hostler had a double-double with 16 points and 12 assists. This was Hostler’s 5th game of the season with at least 10 assists. Jake Coffman hit for 8 points, including a pair of treys. He added 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Gage McClure also knocked down two treys to finish with 8 points. He has a pair of steals. Tucker Seibert scored 2 points and added 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Parker Lantz led in rebounds with 6.
The Tigers and Cardinals will tip off at 7:00 on Friday.
