GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 47, Harrisburg 43: The Trojans overcame some foul trouble for its key player and snapped an 8-game losing streak by getting past the Cougars in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at CASHS Field House on Tuesday night.
Riley Evans, who has been putting up some big numbers lately, picked up her third foul with 5:44 left in the first half and had to sit out. Chambersburg (3-9, 2-6 MPC) led 18-11 at that point, but Harrisburg rallied to tie it 21-21 by halftime thanks to a buzzer-beating three by Keyniah Cofield.
But Riley came back strong in the second half, scoring 16 of her 22 points in the latter half. She also contributed 11 rebounds.
Chambersburg outscored the Cougars (0-14, 0-8 MPC) 18-6 in the third and Harrisburg never quite caught up after that.
Trojan coach Jamiur King said, “Riley gave us a huge spark by knocking down a big 3-pointer at the start of the third quarter. It’s like a broken record to say she’s been our strength lately.”
Maddie Mills scored 9 of her 15 points in the first quarter, including a pair of threes and a drive for a three-point play. She also had a double-double with 10 rebounds, and Ayla Whiteley added 5 boards. Selena Warren scored 7 points, all at the foul line.
“Selena, with 5 assists, kept us in a good spot at times,” King said.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 61, Harrisburg 43: The Trojans — for third straight game — got off to a blazing start, and used that advantage to handle the Cougars on Tuesday night at the Smallwood court in a Mid Penn Commonwealth contest.
Chambersburg (11-2, 7-1 MPC) led 15-2 after one quarter of play, then outscored Harrisburg only 46-41 the rest of the way.
J.J. Kelly and Landon Buhrman each had 5 points in the opening quarter and Eli McDonald hit a 3-pointer and Josh Rudy had two free throws.
Late in the third period, Kelly, who had 20 points, scored a basket and the next time down swished a 3-pointer to produce the largest lead at 21 (42-21). The Cougars got to within 14 points early in the fourth, but Buhrman scored 8 in the period, including 6 after grabbing an offensive board.
“We’re very happy to walk out of there with a win, against an extremely scrappy and hard-nosed team,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. “Their style of play makes it difficult at times, but I was pleased how we competed and battled. Once again, there are things we need to improve upon, though.”
Buhrman finished with 17 points and McDonald also hit double figures with a career-high 10 points. Julian Bair led Harrisburg (4-8, 2-6 MPC) with 11 points.

GIRLS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 90, Gettysburg 80: The Trojan girls gained a big advantage by taking first place in all 3 relays and took down the Warriors in a non-league dual meet Tuesday afternoon at home.
“Tonight was a nail-biter, and it was great to be competitive and get a close win,” Chambersburg coach Hali Cormany said. “Our relays swam really well and sealed the deal.”
The 200 medley relay of Calla Hoffman, Ava Grove, Audrey Keller and Lauren Markle won in a time of 2:13.08; the 200 freestyle team of Lilly Evans, Kayla Wolfe, Markle and Margot Ritchie swam a time of 2:03.58; and the 400 free team of Keller, Hoffman, Evans and Ritchie posted a time of 4:23.97.
Ritchie was a double winner (200 IM in 2:36.69, and 100 free in 1:01.96), as was Hoffman (200 free in 2:22.74, and 100 butterfly in 1:12.22). Grove also picked up a first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.51 for the Trojans (5-1).
Cormany said, “Margot won a close 100 free, and going 1-2 (Hoffman, Grove) in the fly was what we needed to send us in the right direction. The backstrokers and breaststrokers put in their best efforts, and Audrey missed the win in the 100 back by .05 and swam her heart out.”‘
