BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 86, CD East 65: The Trojans’ offense was running on all cylinders Tuesday night at CD East and blasted the Panthers by 21 points in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game.
It’s the first time Chambersburg had hit 80 points since the 2019-20 season.
“Finally, we got some really good contributions from a lot of different players, which was outstanding,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. “We did a great job of punching them early, but they did a nice job of fighting back. From that moment on, we were searching for consistency — sometimes we were really good and sometimes we struggled.”
Chambersburg (9-2, 5-1 MPC) ran out to a 17-2 lead at the start of the game, with J.J. Kelly scoring 10 of them. Then came a wild shooting display in which the next 6 baskets made were all 3-pointers — 2 by Colton Cornwell and 4 by various East players, and the Panthers (3-9, 0-5 MPC) clawed back to within 24-18.
Kelly, Landon Buhrman and Ayden Silvestre each hit a basket to raise the Trojans’ lead to 30-18, and CD East never got closer than 9 points the rest of the way.
Kelly posted 28 points, while Buhrman tallied a career-high 23 points. Cornwell hit 4 threes for 14 points and Ayden Silvestre scored a career-high 7.
Shreffler said, “Every game is a battle in the Commonwealth and this one was no exception. Every challenge is an opportunity to improve.”
Alijah Cooper led East with 15 points.
