GIRLS WRESTLING
Trojans crown 3 champions: Chambersburg put four wrestlers into the finals of the Big Spring Girls Tournament on Saturday and earned three championships and one runner-up finish.

Mackenzie Miller

Earning first place were Reagan Evans at 130 pounds, Mackenzie Miller at 155 and Aulana Stanton at 170. Jessica Li was second at 106.

“We continued to show growth and I think we took the next steps today to wrestling confidently,” Chambersburg coach Josh Sherman said.

No. 1 seed Evans racked up 3 pins for the day, including a fall in 2:25 in the final over Ella Teufert of Octorara. Stanton was the No 2 seed at 170, and she had 2 pins before taking a tight 4-2 decision over No. 1 seed Aambur Breilich of Northern York in the final. Li scored 2 pins before falling 11-0 to Holly McKinney of Souderton.

The highlight may have been Miller at 155. She had a pin in the quarterfinals, then faced Marty Morrison of West Perry, who had placed 8th in the state last year and had pinned Miller earlier this year, in the semifinals. The two went to overtime with a 2-2 score, but Miller scored in the second OT period to take a 6-2 win.

In the final, she again went to overtime, this time against Lillian Raudebaugh of Big Spring, and scored a pin in the extra period in 6:09.

Sherman said, “Her match against Morrison was the best one of the day. Mackenzie has really been focusing on conditioning and wrestling under control, and it paid off big-time today.

“Aulana and Reagan continued to consistently handle their opponents.”

Shippensburg and Waynesboro competed, with the Greyhounds finishing sixth and ‘Boro 7th. Ship’s placewinners included Olivia Kearns (112) and Regan Kearns (124) in 2nd, Kara Fogelsonger (136) and Cameron Richardson (142) in 3rd, and Riley Lockhart (136) in 6th. For the Maidens, Kenadee Shockey was the runner-up at 190, Annabelle Tracy was 2nd at 148, Rylie Young took 5th at 155 and Miley Smetzer was 6th at 118.
