The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers built a double-figure second-half lead and held on to defeat Mt. Airy Christian 40-37 Thursday evening in a non-league girls basketball game.
“We weren’t at our best, but I’m proud of the girls for finding a way to win anyway,” Blazers coach Corey Collins said. “We had a tough time getting into a rhythm on offense. MACA gave us a really good battle on the boards.”
The Blazers (5-3) led by 12 in the fourth quarter, 37-25, but Mt. Airy closed it to 37-35 late in the game. Peyton Bricker scored her only basket of the game to restore the lead to four, and Kaitlyn Garvin sank a foul shot for the 40th point.
Addison Teal put together a double-double and led the Blazers with 18 points, 11 rebounds and six steals. Makenna Morris added 12 points, six steals and five rebounds.
“Addison and Makenna did a great job of attacking the rim,” Collins said.
Also, Garvin scored four points and contributed four steals, and Reagan Witmer scored four points, pulled down five rebounds and handed out a team-high three assists.
