GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 59, Spring Grove 27: The Blue Devils got a 3-pointer on their first possession by Meadow Gambacurta, outscored the Rockets 17-6 in the first quarter and never trailed in a season-opening, non-league victory at home Tuesday night.
Greencastle ended up hitting 8 of 23 threes, and six different players hit at least one bomb.
New G-A coach Bill Monn said, “All of the players contributed — everyone scored and everyone played at the pace that we wanted. It was a good start to the season and is a glimpse of where we want to go.”
Eva Martin led Greencastle with 14 points, including 9 in the first quarter. Liv Carey and Sophie Fries each put up 10 points.
The Blue Devils had 15 assists against 11 turnovers, while the defense harassed the Rockets into many turnovers. Callie Izer and Gambacurta split the defensive duties on Spring Grove’s Kacie Boyer, holding the Rockets’ top player to 11 points.
Fries led with 8 rebounds, Izer collected 7 and Carey had 6. Martin contributed 5 assists.
