UNIVERSITY PARK — Emily Rensch played one of the best rounds of her career in her final high school event.
Playing in the PIAA Class 3A Girls Golf Championships on the White Course at Penn State University on Tuesday, Chambersburg’s Rensch posted a 1-over par 73. That moved her from a tie for 11th place after one round into a tie for seventh place and earned her a PIAA medal.
Rensch shot 75-73–148, 4-over par, over the two-day event, tying with Piper Smith of Manheim Township and Ellie Benson of Peters Township at that number.
“Emily had a real solid day,” Chambersburg coach Mark Yost said. “She made a couple of mistakes, but bounced back from them well. T-7 is very respectable.
“I was very proud of how she played and conducted herself. It’s been a fun four years, and I know she will continue to be successful at St. Francis University next year.”
Rensch was able to birdie three holes Tuesday — No. 6, No. 15 and No. 17 — and had four bogeys and 11 pars. She shot nines of 36-37.
Kaydee Beckenbaugh, a freshman from Shippensburg, also bettered her score from Monday. She shot 83, to finish with a total of 88-83–171. On Tuesday, she posted 42 on the front and 41 on the back, including eight pars and one double bogey.
