CHAMBERSBURG AT HARRISBURG
Game data: Trojans at Cougars,. Saturday, 1 p.m., at Severance Field … Mid Penn Commonwealth game … Live stream planned on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Chambersburg (1-2, 0-2 MPC) was defeated 40-3 by Bishop McDevitt … Harrisburg (2-1, 2-0 MPC) squeaked by State College in a defensive struggle, 7-6, when the Cougars blocked a chip shot field goal try inside the final 2 minutes.
The opponent: Harrisburg lost star lineman Kevin Brown, a Penn State signee, to injury and QB Shawn Lee to an eligibility hearing … The Cougars have pulled out quality wins over the past 2 weeks over McDevitt (35-33 in OT) and State College by a total of 3 points … Jaiyon Lewis has taken over at quarterback, and he’s hit 29 of 42 passes for 419 yards, 3 TDs and no interceptions … All-State wide receiver Elias Coke — who blocked the field goal last week — is the top receiver with 12 catches for 205 yards and a score … Lewis leads in rushing, too, with 192 yards and 2 scores.
Coach’s view: Trojan coach Mark Luther said, “Harrisburg is still good, but without Brown and Lee — you take out two kids like that and it makes a difference. They’ve struggled some on offense and they only had one drive last week. But they’ve found a way to hang on. Their quarterback now can beat you with his feet, so we have to keep him in the pocket. State College did that and gave up only one big play.”
Unsung: Chambersburg started a pair of sophomores at guard last week — LG Rylan Pottle (5-10, 220) and RG Omar Hanchey (5-11, 220) — and they hung in well against the Crusaders … Luther said, “Those two did a really nice job for heir first real experience with varsity football. They did some good things, they were aggressive and physical. We used them to pull sometimes and they threw some great blocks.”
Statistics: Dylan Panfili leads the Chambersburg defense with 32 tackles, followed by Stanley Lozius (31) and Isaiah Tasker with 25 … Jude Grillo has two tackles for loss and Jason Chambers has an interception … Passing: Ceagan Truett 15-for-46, 165 yards … Rushing: Imari Watson 30-158 … Receiving: Trever Luther 10-148.
EAST PENNSBORO AT GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM
Game data: Panthers at Blue Devils, 7 p.m. Friday, at Kaley Field … Mid Penn Colonial game … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com … Military Appreciation Night.
Last week: The Blue Devils (1-2, 1-1 MPC) picked up win No. 1 by staving off a Middletown rally for a 28-26 verdict … East Penn (1-2, 1-1 MPC) also gained its first win, 35-13 over Milton Hershey.
The opponent: The Panthers have a variety of athletes who can pick up yards … Turner Barlup is the QB and he has completed 17 of 22 passes for 261 yards, 2 TDs and no interceptions … Aaron Angelo plays slotback and touches the ball a lot — he has 48 carries for 250 yards and 3 TDs, has caught 6 balls for 148 yards and a score, and he’s thrown the ball 17 times with 8 completions for 96 yards and 3 picks … Dayrell Everett has run 16 times for 109 yards and caught 9 passes for 144 yards and a TD … Jason Gossard (30-86) will also get some carries … East Penn opened the season with losses to Bethlehem Catholic and Trinity.
Coach’s view: G-A coach Devin McCauley said, “On offense, No. 12 (Angelo) is pretty important, running a lot of jet sweeps and some wildcat. They’ve got a couple of different backs that can be explosive — with that we know we have to cover all the bases. They were in a close game last week (21-13) with five minutes left and then broke it open. Both teams are coming off their first wins, so it should be a competitive game. I’m just happy we play them at home, because something bad always seems to happen to us up there.”
Unsung: Fullback Lars Galinanes picked up 53 yards on 11 carries. McCauley said, “He really ran hard and got us some important yards inside the tackles. We need his inside presence to complement our outside running.”
Statistics: Receiving: Carter McCauley has 25 catches for 351 yards and 5 touchdowns … Quarterback Sean Marshall has connected on 37 of 62 passes for 516yards, 5 TDs and 5 interceptions … In last week’s game, Noah Shifflett took a kickoff back for 70 yards, gained some yards on offense and made the game-ending interception on defense he was the G-A MVP.
