McCONNELLSBURG – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers placed third among five teams Saturday at the McConnellsburg girls volleyball tournament.
The Blazers (6-4) lost to McConnellsburg 25-22, 25-10 before rebounding to defeat Central 25-22, 25-21 and Southern Huntingdon 26-24, 25-19. The Blazers finished the tournament with a 25-16, 25-18 loss to James Buchanan.
For the Blazers, Reagan Witmer had one ace, 17 kills, three blocks and one serve reception; Sydney Wiegand had 19 kills and one block; Addison Teal had 20 digs and 15 serve receptions; Chloe Smith had two kills, nine digs and six serve receptions; Allison Rowe had one ace, 27 digs, two assists and 31 serve receptions; Gloria Martin had 10 kills, one ace, 13 digs, six blocks, and seven serve receptions; Kayla Helman had one ace, four kills and seven digs; and Kaitlyn Garvin had one ace, one kill, 16 digs, 74 assists and one serve reception.
On Friday, the Blazers earned a tough 3-2 win over Faith Christian in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference match.
The Blazers took the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23, but Faith responded with wins of 25-20 and 25-18. The Blazers won the match with a 15-12 decision in the fifth set.
For the Blazers, Witmer had one ace, 12 kills, seven digs, six blocks and one assist; Wiegand had 10 kills, five digs, one block and four serve receptions; Teal had three aces, 17 digs, one assist and nine serve receptions; Smith added two kills, 13 digs, one assist and four serve receptions; Rowe had 14 digs and nine serve receptions; Makenna Morris contributed five kills, 12 digs, one block, one assist and eight serve receptions; Helman had four kills and one block; and Garvin had five aces, three kills, 11 digs, one block, 49 assists and six serve receptions.
On Thursday, the Blazers decked Highland View 3-0 in a non-league match, winning games of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-20.
