The Shippensburg Greyhounds moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 28-13 win over visiting Hershey.  The Greyhounds defeated rival Big Spring in the opener 28-7, last season the Hounds averaged 13.4 points a game and only broke 20 once (27 in a win over Waynesboro).

The Trojans opened the scoring with a 10-play 73-yard drive.  Hershey went 3-3 on third down conversions, and Samir Edwards-Pace’s 16-yard run capped off the drive.

Shippensburg answered with a seven-minute, 12-play 65-yard drive.  Brady Maciejewski’s one-yard sneak knotted the game up.

The second quarter and early fourth belonged to the Hounds.  In the second, the Hounds forced three turnovers, three fumbles, and an interception but managed to get only 14 points out of the four.  Andrei Lockhart set the Hounds up, recovering a fumble at the 11-minute mark.  Ship’s offense, eight plays and 59 yards later, took the lead for good.  Ja’nye Statum’s two-yard run caps the drive.

Jaden Hines fumble recovery at the Hershey 38 set the Greyhounds up again.  Maciejewski hit Hines out of the backfield for 33 yards, and Mark Carothers Jr. capped it off with a 6-yard run and a 21-7 lead.

Noah Garvin’s fumble recovery and Nick Scott’s interception closed out the defensive first half for Shippensburg, as the offense could not convert either into points.

Shippensburg opened the second half with a score to go up 28-7.  On the first play of the half, Statum ripped off a 51-yard run down to the Hershey 13—Hines dove in from the two for the score.

Hershey answered with an 11-play 80-yard drive capped by Sean Elliott’s one-yard run.

Neither team dented the endzone in the fourth.  Ship’s defense stopped Hershe on downs at the Greyhound 20 after 14 plays.  With 4:47 left, the Hounds offense picked up two first downs to run out the clock.  In week one, the Hounds did the same with a nearly six-minute drive to end the game.

The Greyhounds travel to Waynesboro on Friday, September 6.
