Southern Fulton (20-5) won big over Mount Calvary Christian 11-1 on Monday at Hershey High School to advance to the “Elite 8” in the PIAA state baseball tourney.
Mount Calvary Christian were the first to get on the board in the first when they took advantage of an outfield fielding error and scored one run.
Southern Fulton captured the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth after Austin Mann hit a sacrifice fly, and Hunter Ward singled, each scoring one run.
Ethan Mellott earned the win for the Indians. The senior hurler surrendered zero hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking four. David Zamora took the loss for Mount Calvary Christian. He went five innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits, striking out none and walking five.
Southern Fulton piled up 11 hits in the game. Southern Fulton Indian Senior, Hunter Ward led the team with two hits in four at bats. Mellott and Mann each drove in two runs for the Indians. SF had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game.
Ben Gerlach went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Mount Calvary Christian in hits.
The Indians will take on the winner of Dubois Central Catholic vs Bishop McCort game on Thursday at place and time TBA.
