Four area teams are preparing for the first round of the PIAA State Tournament in baseball and softball on Monday.
In Class 6A softball, Chambersburg (18-5), the No. 4 team from District 3, will take on District 1 champion Downingtown West (24-0) on the Whippets’ home field at 4 p.m.
The winner will face the winner of (4-1) Williamsport (9-12) vs. (1-4) Downingtown East (20-4) on Thursday.
Shippensburg plays in the Class 5A softball tournament. The Greyhounds (12-9) were fourth in District 3 and will take on the District 12 runner-up, Cardinal O’Hara (9-4), at Cardinal O’Hara at 3:30.
The winner will play either (3-1) South Western (24-0) or (1-3) West Chester Rustin (18-5) in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Shippensburg also qualified in baseball, where the Hounds (17-6), the District 3 fourth-place finisher in 5A, will play District 1 champion Marple-Newtown (18-6) at Villanova Ballpark in Plymouth Meeting at 4.
Awaiting will be the winner of (4-1) Selinsgrove (19-2) vs. (3-3) Lampeter-Strasburg (16-8) on Thursday.
In Class 1A baseball, District 5 runner-up Southern Fulton (19-5) travels east to take on District 3 champion Mount Calvary (13-3) at Hershey H.S. at 4:30.
The winner plays the winner of (6-1) Bishop McCort (14-8) vs. (9-2) DuBois Central Catholic (11-9) in the quarterfinals.
