SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 13, Cedar Cliff 0: Samantha Paetow had a big game at the plate to help the Trojans crush the Colts 13-0 in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game on Monday afternoon at Norlo Park.
Paetow was 4-for-5, scored 2 runs and drove in 4, and she had a double and home run among her hits.
“Sam had a really good day at the plate — even her out was loud,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said.
The Trojans (12-3, 7-3 MPC) scored one run in the top of first inning, 4 in the second, 2 in the fourth and 6 in the seventh. The game was played at Norlo because Cedar Cliff’s field was not playable, so Chambersburg was the visitor.
Skultety said, “The girls came out a little sluggish, which was a surprise because we had off over the weekend and we didn’t even know if we’d get to play today. We played outstanding defense, but need to find more consistency at the plate, especially with runners in scoring position.”
Also for Chambersburg, Bree Paetow was 3-for-5 with an RBI and 2 steals; Karley Skultety was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in and a double; Addison Gsell doubled twice in 3 at-bats (1 RBI); Malia Cramer was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; and Brooke Leedy had a run knocked in.
Kori Leedy went the first 3 innings for the win — she did not allow a hit or walk. Saleen Null pitched 2 innings and gave up 2 hits, and Sanay Jones finished with 2 hitless innings.
BASEBALL
Cedar Cliff 8, Chambersburg 4: The Trojans put up 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Colts in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at Greene Township Park on Monday afternoon, but Cedar Cliff scored in each of the final 3 innings for a win.
Chambersburg (4-10, 2-8 MPC) scored a run in the first when Aaron Vasquez walked, moved up on an error and scored on a two-out single to right by Ceagan Truett.
Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth, the Trojans got singles by Wyatt Martin and Tyler Brechbiel to lead off the inning. After an out, Brady Deneen walked to load the bases. Vasquez drew a walk to force in a run, then Evan Brown belted a double to bring in two more scores.
Truett and Brechbiel each stroked 2 hits for Chambersburg and Jake Folmar hit a double.
Starter Ryan Schellhase pitched 3 innings and gave up 3 runs, Logan Draper took the loss with 2 innings in which he gave up 4 runs, and Colton Wadel allowed one run in his 2 innings of work.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Gettysburg 13, Chambersburg 6: A rocky fourth quarter proved too much for the Trojans to overcome Monday evening at Trojan Stadium, as the Warriors earned a non-league victory.
“We played a very hard game, but momentum swung the other way during the fourth quarter,” Chambersburg coach Keara Allshouse said. “Gettysburg turned a two-goal lead into the seven-goal margin to end the game.”
Reagan Barrett tallied 3 goals for the Trojans (2-13), while Gabriella Sabatino, McKenna Myers and Malaina Alleman (her first career goal) each scored one.
Assists were credited to Barrett, Ellie Sarvis and Mollie Yardley-Gontz.
BOYS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 18, Gettysburg 7: Riley Harmon piled up some good statistics as the Trojans defeated the Warriors in a non-league game Monday evening in Gettysburg.
Harmon had 4 goals and 3 assists to help Chambersburg (7-8), he went 10-for-11 on faceoffs, and his assist on Dayre Senft’s first career goal was the 100th point of Harmon’s career.
“I think it’s really cool he got his 100th on Dayre’s first goal,” Trojan coach Joey Wilmot said. “Riley recruited Dayre to play and they have that QB to RB connection (from football).”
Sam Kunkleman led the scoring with 5 goals and an assist, and Ryan Cosey also scored 4 goals and had 2 assists. Other scorers included Garrett Iser (2, 2), Blake Dupont (2 assists), Quinn Makosy (1, 1), Brady Frezt (1 goal) and Eli Herbert (1 assist).
Kristian Freeman made 8 saves and Kellen Sanders made 4. On faceoffs, Senft was 8-for-12 and Jaxson Thomas was 2-for-4.
Wilmot said, “We had a lot of guys contribute today and I was pleased with the way we stayed composed. Gettysburg has gotten better and their goalie in particular played well.”
