Chambersburg roundup: Boys lacrosse remains on hot streak

Chambersburg 11, Dover 8: The Trojans stepped out of Mid Penn Conference play and handed the Eagles a non-league loss Friday night on the road.

Matt Tucker on offense and Dom Barbagallo on defense had well-played games to lead Chambersburg (5-7) to its fourth win in the last 5.

Tucker scored 8 goals and Barbagallo caused a career-high 5 turnovers.

“Dom and Matt really stepped up today when we needed them,” Trojan coach Joey Wilmot said. “They were instrumental in our success tonight. Matt had as good of an offensive performance as I’ve seen this season. He was really feeling it today.”

Riley Harmon, Garrett Iser and Sam Kunkleman each scored one goal and Kunkleman (2), Blake Dupont and Logan Mulkey each had assists.

Wilmot said, “Tavian Ferguson made some really nice hustle plays and brought the energy tonight, with seven groundballs, and he was all over the field.”

Harmon was 10-for-18 on faceoffs.

State College 8, Chambersburg 1: Two Little Lions pitchers held the Trojans to just 3 hits and posted a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory in State College on Friday afternoon.

The Little Lions scored a run in the first off Joey Diaz and 3 more in the second.

Chambersburg (3-9, 1-7 MPC) scored its lone run in the top of the fifth inning. Tyler Brechbiel reached base with one out when he ran to first on a dropped third strike. Tyler Foreman drew a walk and Brady Deneen lined a double to right field for an RBI.

A ground ball and a line drive to center then ended the inning.

The other two hits for Chambersburg were by Diaz and Aaron Vasquez.
