For the 3rd consecutive game the Tigers(5-3) found themselves in an extra inning game against a formidable opponent. Runs were tough to come by in this one as both starting pitchers were throwing well.
The Titans carried a 1-0 lead into the 7th inning when the Tigers rallied to tie the game. Adam Hammond led off with a walk and Daxten Detweiler drew a walk to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Pinch hitter Tucker Seibert missed on two bunt attempts but hit into a fielders choice to put runners on first and third. #9 hitter Broc Hostler hit a sac fly to center to score Hammond and tie the game. Seibert was thrown out trying to advance to second on the play.
Tiger starter Wade Appleby sat the Titans down in order to set up another walk off victory.
In the bottom of the 8th Drew Goshorn stroked the first pitch he saw into left field. Goshorn was put in motion when Jake Coffman struck out swinging. The throw from catcher Aiden Lane skipped into centerfield allowing Goshorn to advance to third. Landon Arnold and Wade Appleby were both intentionally walked to load the bases. On a 2-2 count batter Ayden Ryder was hit with a slider from starter Connor Jones forcing home Goshorn with the winning run.
Tigers starter Wade Appleby turned in a stellar pitching performance. He allowed 1 run in 8 innings, scattering 5 hits with 3 k and 1 BB. He was in command of his pitches all evening throwing just 80 pitches in the complete game gem.
Appleby’s defense was pretty solid behind him as well. Sophomore third baseman Logan Hall and shortstop Landon Arnold recorded 11 outs in the game. Tigers Center Fielder Jake Coffmanthrew out base runner Connor Jones at home plate in the first inning to keep the game tied. On the play catcher Drew Goshorn caught hitter Ben Kormanski trying to advance on the play. The Tigers turned a nice 1-6-3 double play later in the game to escape without any damage.
Tussey starter Connor Jones was solid as well. He went all eight innings in suffering the loss. He gave up his first hit in the 5th inning to Daxten Detweiler. He had 8 k’s, 6 BB and scattered 5 hits. Kormanski led the Titans with a pair of hits. Jones and Lane both had doubles.
The Tigers travel to Windber on Tuesday for a non league contest at 4:30.
