Southern Fulton Indians Breeze Past Claysburg-Kimmel in Doubleheader Sweep

The Southern Fulton Indians won big over Claysburg-Kimmel 9-3 and 12-2 on Saturday to earn a doubleheader sweep to improve their record to 9-0 (3-0).

Game 1: Southern Fulton 9 Claysburg-Kimmel 3

A single by Joel Fitz put Southern Fulton Varsity Indians on the board in the top of the second.

Jett Burger earned the win for the Indians. The big reliever pitched four innings and surrendered four hits and three runs (two earned), striking out six and walking one. Paul Hendershot started the game and pitched three strong innings, surrendering one hit and 0 runs while striking out three.

Landon Douglas took the loss for Claysburg-Kimmel. The starting pitcher went four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out four and walking six.

Burger went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Indians in hits.

Southern Fulton had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game.

Game 2: Southern Fulton 12 Claysburg-Kimmel 3

Southern Fulton easily dispatched Claysburg-Kimmel on Saturday in the second game in 5 innings.

Claysburg-Kimmel opened the scoring in the first after Aiden Simpson doubled, scoring one run.

Southern Fulton jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when Mark Fitz drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.

The Indians scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. Ethan Powell singled, scoring two runs; Jett Burger grounded out, scoring one run; Ethan Mellott doubled, scoring two runs; and Owen Oakman singled, scoring one run.

A triple by Paul Hendershot extended the Indian lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the 4th.

Owen Oakman, a sophomore, earned the win for the Indians. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and one run over four innings, striking out eight and walking none.

Braden Furry took the loss for Claysburg-Kimmel. He went four innings, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking five. Ethan Mellott appeared in relief for SF.

The Indians accumulated 13 hits in the game. Hendershot led Southern Fulton with three hits in four at-bats. Powell, Mellott, and Burger each drove in two runs for Southern Fulton. Hunter Ward collected two hits for the Indians in four at-bats.

Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Southern Fulton Varsity was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.

The Indians return to action on Tuesday, hosting the Cardinals of Forbes Road in an ICC South matchup.
