Runs hard to come by in Southern Fulton win over Fannett- Metal

Both teams were strong on the hill on Tuesday, but Southern Fulton (7-0, 3-0) defeated Fannett Metal 3-1. Joel Fitz started the game for the Indians and pitched 4 solid innings.  Fannett-Metal Ace, Landon Arnold started and went 5.2 innings.

The game was tied at 0 in the bottom of the fourth when Fannett-Metal induced a two-out walk, which was promptly followed by consecutive singles by FM hitters. A fielding miscue in the Indian outfield resulted in a run crossing the plate.

Jett Burger singled to tie the game at one in the top of the fifth inning.

The Indians took the lead in the top of the sixth. Joel Fitz doubled, scoring one run, to give Southern the upper hand, 2-1.

Fitz earned the win for Southern Fulton. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Landon Arnold took the loss for Fannett Metal. The right ace went five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking three. Trentin Cain collected the save for SF with three innings of one-hit ball.

Southern Fulton piled up nine hits in the game. Ethan Powell went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Indians in hits. Burger, Fitz, and Mark Fitz each drove in one run for SF.

Noah Naugle, Wade Appleby, Daxton Detweiler, and Drew Goshorn each collected one hit for Fannett Metal, who falls to 1-3 on the season.

Southern Fulton’s next game is an away game at Meyersdale. The game will be played at Salisbury High School at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
