BOYS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 60, Big Spring 53: The Blue Devils avenged an earlier loss in overtime to the Bulldogs by picking up a huge road win Friday night and climbed into first place in the Mid Penn Colonial Division.
Greencastle (14-3, 10-1 MPC) now leads Gettysburg (9-2), Big Spring (8-3) and Waynesboro (7-4), which upset Gettysburg on Friday. And the Blue Devils play Gettysburg and ‘Boro next week.
“I’m not worrying about any of that,” G-A coach Todd Stephens said. “All I know is we have Gettysburg on Tuesday. We have a tough stretch coming up.”
The Blue Devils made 7 of their 8 threes in the first half and raced out to a 34-23 lead at the break. Big Spring could only claw back 4 points in the second half.
Stephens said, “We shot the ball well in the first half and when you see the ball going in, it helps your confidence. The guys did a nice job.”
Conner Wright scored a season-high 24 points to lead Greencastle, Surzano Solomon tallied 12 and Eli Sterling totaled 9.
For Big Spring, Aidan Salle poured in 34 points, and he reached the 1,000th-point mark for his career, but no teammate had more than 6 points.
“I think we have a nice team with a lot of weapons,” Stephens said. “We were prepared for the things they did to us before and we executed better. We shared the ball and made good passes.”
