GREENCASTLE — No. 2-seeded Greencastle-Antrim had a little hiccup in the third game, but otherwise played to form Tuesday night at home in a District 3 Class 3A first-round girls volleyball match.

The Blue Devils took control with 25-22 and 25-13 wins in the first two sets, but Cocalico won the third, 25-22. G-A then silenced the Eagles in the final game, 25-12.

Greencastle (16-1) will face No. 7 Garden Spot (14-6), which defeated Bishop McDevitt 3-0, in a quarterfinal match at home on Thursday evening. Cocalico bows out with an 8-9 record.

G-A coach Corry Eagler said, “I think our jitters may have caused more errors than necessary, but the girls took care of business when we needed it.

“We did a good job with serving strong and placing the ball well. When we were in system we were hard to defend.”

Masalyna Miller led in service points with 15, Abby Eagler had 10 points and Brianna Woodring added 10. Eagler had 4 aces, and Lily Kauffman and Kylie Kerns had 3 each.

At the net, Kauffman led with 4 blocks and added 8 kills. Kerns had 2 blocks, Eagler led in kills with 13 and Alaina Garling added 5 kills.

Kerns (22 assists) and Garling (13) led in assists, while on defense, Miller had 17 digs, Woodring had 11 and Garling made 7.

Coach Eagler said, “Kylie had a great night setting, Lily led in blocking and Abby took care of the ball on the outside. Lainey (Garling) also hit well on the return of service and Masalyna played great defense, so we got good play from many of the girls.”
