G-A roundup: Claire Paci takes Mid Penn gold in girls X-C

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Paci earns gold medal: Greencastle-Antrim senior Claire Paci opened up her final postseason in cross country with a good performance, taking first place at the Mid Penn Conference championships in Newville on Saturday.

Paci, who recently committed to the University of Connecticut, ran the course at Big Spring H.S. in a time of 18:35.8, finishing comfortably ahead of the runner-up, Ana Bondy of Carlisle (18:51.0).

G-A coach Rich Secrest said, “Claire ran tough out there by herself today and came away with the title. She is still working through mileage and workouts that will pay off in the weeks to come.”

Also for the Blue Devils, Katherine Board ran a time of 20:35.4 to place 26th.

Secrest said, “Katherine and Emily Forrester (93rd, 23:14.0) also qualified for the district race.”

Waynesboro’s Isabella Reufel took 28th in 20:36.9. Shippensburg was 12th in the team standings with 383 points, Waynesboro was 13th (391) and Greencastle was 14th (424).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Parks finishes 3rd: Greencastle-Antrim placed a pair of runners in the top 13 on Saturday in Newville at the Mie Penn Conference championships at Big Spring H.S.

Hayden Parks placed third with a time of 16.00.6 and Joel Amstutz crossed the line in 13th place with a time of 16:30.7.

“Hayden took the boys race out and faded late, but looked very controlled for most of the race,” G-A coach Rich Secrest said. “He could do some nice things as well (in the postseason). Joel got a nice PR while placing well and our boys team took the last spot for districts (8th place).”

Shippensburg placed 13th (400 points), Waynesboro was 14th (403) and james Buchanan was 19th (552).

BOYS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Bermudian Springs 0: The Blue Devils kept the ball rolling Saturday in a rainy non-league contest against the Eagles, taking a win to push their record to 13-0-2.

“It poured the entirety of the game, and I was pleased with how the boys fought through the conditions and continued to play a quality game with lots of possession,” Greencastle coach Aric Bruner said. “Our midfield (Ewan Coy, Garrett Decker and Caleb Baine) is playing tremendous soccer at the moment and they had another fantastic game today.”

Cooper Noblit scored in the first half for G-A, while Nolan Sullivan had both goals in the second half. Decker assisted on two goals and Coy also had an assist. Ethan Ford made 3 saves in goal.

The Blue Devils have posted shutouts in 9 games this season and its also the ninth time the team has scored at least 3 goals.
